Cooperativa Artieri Alabastro <\/span><\/strong> was established in 1895 and is the oldest production facility of Volterra<\/b>\u2019s entire alabaster sector.<\/p>\n

Currently the cooperative counts 28 partners<\/strong> <\/span>who manufacture their products in full compliance with the traditional techniques of alabaster processing\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n

In addition to its in-house production, renewed in part each year, the Cooperative offers its customers a service for the creation of\u00a0custom-made alabaster items<\/span> <\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n

During a visit to Volterra in 1908, the poet Gabriele D\u2019Annunzio<\/strong>, while observing the unique and awesome dexterity of the alabaster craftspeople of Volterra<\/strong> coined the name \u201cARTIERI<\/strong><\/span>\u201d to describe the alabaster artisans as creators of an exquisite art form.<\/p>\n

In 2020, Cooperativa Artieri Alabastro was acknowledged as a National Historic Enterprise<\/strong> by Union Camere, and was therefore entered in the Register of National Historic Companies.<\/p>\n
