The co-operative society of alabaster has been founded in 1895, and represents the most antique producing structure of the whole alabaster field in Volterra.

The society has as purpose to gather the alabaster artisans in the town with the aim to reach a production of articles that has the necessary artistic, technical and commercial qualifications.

Today the co-operative society gathers 27 partners, of which 23 are alabaster artisans, 2 artisans working bronze, 1 technical partner (Giovanni Nerei, designer and chairman) and 1 partner that isn’t working anymore.

The artisans of the co-operative carry out their products observing the traditional working techniques.

The co-operative, beyond it’s own production that is partially renewed every year, is able to offer their costumers a service for the achievement of personalized products.
